I'M JUST HERE
About the story (without giving away too much)...
I’m just here is a story about being the thing that stays. “You don’t even have to excel. You just have to survive.. You literally just have to get through it and then you can be whoever or whatever you want to be.” is what Mara, a young woman in her 20’s who is volunteering at a suicide hotline in West Hollywood tells the teenage girl on the other end of the phone who is transgender and about to jump off the top of a building.
It’s a story about how in an instant, we can make decisions to fly away from it all and give up or stay and fight to thrive. I’m just here is a short story that makes us stop, even if it’s just for a moment, and realize that we have more in common with those around us than we ever think we do. It shows us just how impactful three small words can be.
I’m just here is a small step towards giving people of the LGBTQ community, the “T” in particular, a story of hope and inspiration. It defies the all-too-common tropes that have somehow been established in film and television and breaks all the rules. It’s a story that’s based on compassion and connection.
